Dream a Rotten Curse Vol.1

Been busy for the past couple of days so that I can finish all my projects in a timely manner. I forgot yesterday was my former high school's art show and rather urked with myself that I missed it. I was really wanting to see what everyone did this year and catch up with my art teacher, Mrs. Carman. She was such an influence on my life, more than any art teacher had been, I miss her so much. Anyway I don't have any pictures of my progess with the projects that I've been working on yet, however I'll leave you with a few pictures of things from my sketch book.

And check out A Day To Remember, been listening to 'em while I draw.

Exploring album art

Thanks to my amazing boyfriend, I have recently started listening to grindcore opposed to "mainstream" metal, as he refers to it. My favorite band at the moment being Agoraphobic Nosebleed (ANB), though I do like some of their older music I'm more prone to their lastest release, Agorapocalypse, since I'm actually able to hear musical structure. Since being exposed to this alien genre, I've become intrested in a lot of artists such as Florian Bertmer ( http://florianbertmer.blogspot.com/ ) who has done a number of illustration for the hardcore punk . grindcore and metal scene. His artwork is so captivating to me, there are no words I can find to express how it makes me feel. In the near future I plan on buying a few of his prints and hang them around in my apartment.
More so, Bertmer is a kickass artist I do recommend everyone checks him out.

Another illustrator that is known to do artwork for the grindcore/metal scene is Justin Bartlett ( http://www.vberkvlt.com/ ) who has done covers for bands such as Gorgoroth, Gravetemple, Trap Them, and others. His work can be described as grim, embellished with satantic imagery, and what's more metal than that? Bartlett captures an eerie mood, that I could easily find in a nightmare, in a good way of course.

And less I forget about Dan Mumford ( http://www.dan-mumford.com/index.php ) who is also associated with album artwork. He's done work for A Day to Remember's Homesick album and many others. Mumford's use of lines and color are absolutely breathtaking- I have seen nothing like his work and find myself in awe. I was able to purchase an All Shall Perish t-shirt, at a concert, with one of his designs and couldn't have been more stoked. Money well spent.

The fact of the matter is I've been inspired by these artists and to find them associated with great bands is a plus. Many people don't explore their work enough to really appreciate their talent, and I believe they need to do so. Illustrators put the cherry on top of great albums, that's all.

work work work

A few days ago I've been asked to do some artwork for a local band called Vitreloy from Guthrie, Oklahoma. Though I'm not completely familiar with the band members I'm flattered they even sought me out for my work. They asked for either a forest setting with a full moon and "lots of gore" or an old gothic cathedrol from a flying creatures view. We'll see what I can come up with that's actually original since there are probably many other works of art just like that. Hopefully by next week I will atleast have a rough sketch of what I'll actually be painting, and will have pictures posted asap.

Aside from that request, I'll be working on a piece that I dreamt of. To make a very long and complex dream short, there was a part in which I arrive at a pond and spoke with a squid like creature with a very beautiful women's face, where the squids mouth should be. So part squid, part women? Well sorta but don't picture Ursula from the Little Mermaid cause that's not at all how she looked. It's hard to explain so again when I have this piece finished I'll try and have pictures up asap.

To draw inspiration for Vitreloy's request, I'll be more than likely listening to Abigail Williams. They're one of my favorite American black metal bands, so check 'em out.

Introduction

The name is Odessa Michelle Teboe, otherwise known as Odie. I'm just like any other artist trying to get their name out in this world. My inspirtations range my self proclaimed "psychotic" imagination, horror movies, heavy fucking metal and personal tragedies.

As Chuck Palahniuk once said, "art never comes from happiness."

My main mediums of choice are acrylic, and charcoal, though I am currently experimenting with oils and watercolor.

A few artists that I'm watching are: Shawn Barber http://www.sdbarber.com/ , Justin Bartlett http://www.vberkvlt.com/ , and Dan Mumford http://www.dan-mumford.com/ , among others.
